Located in Hamilton County, just north of neighboring Indianapolis, Indiana. It is located just north of I-465 and only 1/2 hour from the Indianapolis International Airport.
Carmel is one of the more affluent areas in central Indiana. Its nostalgic downtown area is a popular destination among locals, and Arts & Design District is is home to a very prolific and concentrated population of artists.
There are several cool attractions worth seeing in Carmel, Indiana. For starters, the city has its very own natural Artesian well that provides high quality drinking water to all residents. Another attraction is the famours Monon Trail, a bicycle and walking trail that extends 15.2 miles from 146th Street in Carmel Indiana (at the very north end of the trail) to 10th street in downtown Indianapolis on the south end. The Indianapolis section was completed in 1999 and the Carmel section in 2001 and 2002.
There's plenty of entertainment that awaits Carmel residents. The Carmel Arts & Design District alone is a happening place for things to do in Carmel. The relatively new district houses a plethora of Indianapolis art galleries, interior designers, Carmel restaurants, antique stores, showrooms and specialty shops, inside a congenial neighborhood called "Old Town Shops." An eclectic mix of retail establishments, Carmel businesses and residential town homes and condominiums, the Carmel Arts & Design District is considered a prime artists' community in the Indiana.
Carmel, Indiana is the host of several events throughout the year. The largest of these events is CarmelFest, the town's Fourth of July celebration. The event is a family oriented festival focused on patriotism and community spirit, featuring fireworks, music, dancing, food vendors, crafts, and a large Parade Spectacular.
Rock the District is another event that has been gaining popularity in recent years. Held in the town's Arts & Design District, Rock the District hosts live music on three different stages.
The Carmel Public Library was opened on May 2, 1999. The new, two story facility is 116,000 square feet and has shelving space for 300,000 books, 46,000 audiovisual items and 665 periodicals. It also has 120 computer work stations, ample public seating, numerous study rooms and new technology centers for children, teens and adults. This Carmel Indiana library even includes a gift shop and a coffee area managed by an outside vendor.
