It is a northerly community that has over time transformed from a modest railroad town into an upscale and vivacious city. It has one of the nation's fastest growing communities and, in 2005, was named by Money Magazine as one of the top 25 places to live in the country. Because of its growing population and close proximity to the economic hub of Indiana, Indianapolis, Fishers enjoys a balmy business climate that continues to grow. Its business community contains nearly 1,500 companies, and there are plenty of opportunities for life science companies, corporate headquarters, advanced manufacturing, and distribution centers.
Much of the businesses in Fishers, from small, locally owned stores in the town's downtown area to the large corporate headquarters located in suburbia, are members of the Fishers Chamber of Commerce.

- Fishers Freedom Festival: This is a two-day event, held annually, to celebrate the Fourth of July. There are parades, fireworks, games, sports, food vendors, and other entertainment. It is good for the whole family. It is held at the Roy Holland Memorial Park, which is located off of 116th Street and Holland.
There are plenty of things to do for families and individuals. One of the biggest attractions is the Conner Prairie Living History Museum, a time machine back to the 19th century where children can tour the pioneer village, participate in authentic Native American dances, and learn a little bit about the history of the Hoosier state.
Three annual events keep residents excited throughout the year: the Fishers Freedom Festival, the Flavor of Fishers, and the Fishers Renaissance Faire. The Fishers Freedom Festival happens every year in June, just before the 4th of July. Taking place at Roy G. Holland Memorial Park, the Fishers Freedom Festival features a 5K walk/run called the Freedom Run, a parade, live music, and a huge fireworks show caps off the whole affair.
Fishers Train Station
Fishers, Indiana was originally named Fishers Switch and then Fishers Station in reference to its location along the railroad. Today, the Indiana Transportation Museum has been designated as the operator for the line. The train now takes passengers to special events (such as the Indiana State Fair) and has future plans to run a line to downtown events. The Fishers Train Station is located off of 116th Street, half a mile west of Interstate 69.
