Indianapolis Children's Choir

The Indianapolis Children's ChoirThe Indianapolis Children’s Choir is truly one of the gems of the city. The largest children’s choir in the country, the ICC has over 1,700 members, aged infant through high school, that perform across the country and around the world.  The ICC’s mission includes inspiring youth to achieve, raising self-esteem, and giving youth a sense of pride and accomplishment. The directors and the teachers at the ICC do a masterful job of weaving all of these values and core ideals into the art of music.

The ICC was begun in 1986 by artistic director Henry Leck, who is also a professor and Director of Choral Activities at Butler University. With a Master’s degree in choral conducting from Indiana University, Leck has shaped the choir into one with worldwide recognition. His co-director, Ruth Dwyer, works with choirs all over the country. She is a published composer and has won Outstanding Music Educator of the Year by the IMEA. Together, these two visionaries have accomplished more with the ICC than anyone had hoped for.

The Indianapolis Children’s Choir does much more than perform, though they do an exemplary job of that, performing at Carnegie Hall and all over Europe. They work to ensure that their children come from all different races and socioeconomic backgrounds and that they learn to feel pride and accomplishment. Children are taught not just how to harmonize musically, but also socially. The ICC has been so successful that an hour-long documentary, In Endless Song: 20 Years of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir, that shows how a group of diverse, ordinary children are shaped into one of the most famous children’s choirs in the world, and how that has impacted their lives.
