Paper products and wood products are also some of the leading industries in Georgia. Yellow pines of southern Georgia, for example, produce plentiful rosin, pine oil and turpentine products. Georgia is the leader in these products, beating all other 49 states in production. Slash pines in the southern parts of Georgia also produce many tons of pulpwood for many different paper products. Georgia’s many paper mills produce paper, newsprint and cardboard. In addition, cellulose processed from pine trees makes the base for plastics, cellophane and rayon. Georgia has many other pine products including lumber, barrels, and railway ties. Oaks and other hardwoods in the north of Georgia are used in making furniture, flooring and assorted interior furnishings.
