There are three major regions in Utah that make it so diverse. The Colorado Plateau extends into Utah and is mostly in the southern and eastern regions. The famous Bryce, Cedar Breaks and Zion canyons are located in this area. The Rocky Mountains extend north and south across a large swath of western North America. Utah has two ranges of the Rocky Mountains. The Uinta range is unique in that it runs east-west like no other range in the Rockies. Several peaks in this range are higher than 13,000 feet and have glacier-formed lakes. Utah's second range, the Wasatch Range runs the center of the state roughly. Its Western side has very steep and rugged terrain with the range rising 6,000 to 8,000 feet above the valleys below. The corner of the state is the only point in the United States where four sates comes together. Navajo Indians consider this land sacred.
About 30 percent of Utah is forested with many trees found in the higher elevations. Firs, aspens, junipers, pines and spruces are common. Many kinds of shrubs, grasses and flowers can be found, as well. Overall, Utah's environment is diverse and unique.
