Asante Children’s Theatre of Indianapolis was founded by a group of people who decided to do something about the lack of arts education for children, especially in the inner city. Fueled by the research proving that children who are involved in the arts are more likely to go to college and to stay out of trouble, the people of the Asante Children’s Theatre provide a safe haven for children to learn the expressive arts of dance and storytelling, theatre, and music, utilizing the tradition of African-American performing arts.

Asante Children’s Theatre operates on the principle that children who are given a sense of purpose, the opportunity to express themselves and make choices creatively, a community to belong to, and a sense of accomplishment will thrive. They perform locally at the Indiana History Center in the Frank and Katrina Basile Theatre, the Christamore House Multi-Service Center home, and the Madame Walker Theatre.
