Westfield, Indiana
Westfield, Indiana is a mid-sized town located in Hamilton County, Indiana. It has a rich heritage that dates all the way back to 1834, when Quakers from North Carolina founded the town. Now you can find diversified neighborhoods, recreational trails and parks systems, industrial parks, regional shopping, and a economic development climate. Westfield will most likely never rival Indianapolis. But maybe that's what locals like most about it, the fact that it has a character all its own, and doesn't strive to be something its not. Folks come to Westfield because it offers a different quality of life, one that can't be found in a large metropolis.
Business
Recently, the city government has been trying to attract more businesses into the community, which is already the home of several corporate headquarters. The pro-business climate in Westfield has begun to pay dividends and more companies move to the Central Indiana town. [1] Much of the business community in Westfield belongs to the Westfield Chamber of Commerce, a government organization that’s in charge of the economic development in the city. The main objective of the Chamber is to educate its members on issues that impact Westfield business, which it accomplishes through monthly meetings that generally focus on four areas of Westfield economic development: Current Events, Business Attraction, Business Retention, and Legislative Affairs. Many commercial and industrial development properties are available in Westfield, and its network of fiber optics, utilities, and accessible roadways make owning a business an attractive prospect in Westfield [2].

History
Founded on May 6, 1834 by a group of North Carolina Quakers that included Asa Bales, Simon Moon, Simon Barker, and Ambrose Osborne (several of which now have Westfield parks named after them), Westfield is purported to have been planned as a stop on the Underground Railroad, thanks to the work of the Religious Society of Friends and the Wesleyan Methodist Church. The city was officially incorporated in 2008, making it the youngest Indiana city. As Westfield continues to grow, a major reworking of the downtown sector has been planned for the near future [3].
Notable People
Because of its relatively small size, not too many celebrities and historical figures have come from Westfield, Indiana. However, there are two Westfield residents who have held places in United States history: Claude Bowers and Herbert Baumeister. Claude Bowers was the American ambassador to Spain and Chile; at one point he ran for the House of Representatives. In his lifetime, Claude Bowers penned fourteen books, many of them concerning the life of Thomas Jefferson. Herbert Baumeister, aka Brian Smart, is a lot more infamous. A diagnosed schizophrenic, Baumeister murdered somewhere between 11 and 20 gay men, burning the flesh from their bodies before partially burying them in his backyard; he eventually committed suicide [7].
