Actors at Footlite Musicals in Indianapolis Indiana

Indianapolis’ theatre history is abundant with examples of the community taking charge of the arts and arts education and making a place for it in their lives and neighborhoods, and Footlite Musicals is one more result of that attitude. Founded in 1955, their seasons include Broadway musicals, cabaret shows, and children’s shows.

Footlite Musicals House Pipe Organ in Indianapolis Indiana

Footlite Musicals is housed in the Hedback Theatre on North Alabama Street, formally the old Civic Theatre. It was purchased and donated to the group by Mr. and Mrs. Phil Hedback in 1976. One of the most unique features of the building and of Footlite Musicals is their house pipe organ, bought and installed by Phil Hedback, which members of The American Theatre Organ Society play before every performance.

The company holds open auditions for all of their shows and is run by an all-volunteer board, crew, staff, and cast. They host a children’s workshop in the summer that culminates in a performance, and have been honored to win awards from the Encore Association and the American Community Theatre Association.
