The Broad Ripple Brewpub and Restaurant is the oldest microbrewery still operating in the great state of Indiana. More importantly it is just an awesome place to go grab a locally brewed beer and hang out with a few friends. There is rarely a night that The Brewpub is not packed inside, while a line of hopeful beer enthusiasts wait somewhat patiently outside. There are few ways to better spend a spring or summer day in Indianapolis than sampling a few of the Brewpubs original beers. With a tall one in hand sit back and take in the life around you Broad Ripple Village offers up. No matter if you are only an occasional beer drinker or a connoisseur of barley and hops, this pub has the perfect product for your pallet.

Owned and operated since its inception in 1990 by a transplanted Englishman, the Broad Ripple Brewpub and Restaurant has an authentic European feel hard to top. The dark wood paneling, tin ceiling and warm comforting fire place inside are designed much as any pub in England would be. The small corner bar offers the perfect opportunity to get to know your companions that much better. Unfortunately we all know all to well that friends sometimes come and go, but as long as the Brewpub’s beer stays the same it will be all right. The award winning microbrews created here are the main reason BR Brewpub has been voted both NUVO’s and Indianapolis Monthly’s best Brewpub every year since 1996. When talking about bars in Indianapolis, this is a must see destination for a great time.
The tastes of the microbrews here are as distinct as the names they have acquired. There are the classics such as a pilsner, an India Pale Ale and Spring Bock. Those are just a warm up for the other offerings like the Lawn Mower, Extra Special Bitter and Java Porter. They even have at least one cask ale on tap year round, like the Evilsizor’s Russian Imperial Stout, winner of the 2008 Indiana State Fair Brewers Cup, or Wobbly Bob American Pale. If you and your friends don’t know what a cask ale is what better excuse do you need to come to the Broad Ripple Brewpub and Restaurant and learn first hand.
Unique tastes aren’t just reserved for the beer at the Brewpub. The food menu is one that you will definitely not find anywhere else in Indy. Not only is this one of the best bars around, but it’s an inexpensive and delicious restaurant in Indianapolis as well. Start off with the house original Scotch Eggs; which is comprised of two hard boiled eggs wrapped in sausage, breaded then deep fried! Their Mexican white wings are another way to sample something different at the Brewpub. They take baked chicken, wrap it in bacon and fresh jalapeno peppers, and then deep fry it to a golden brown. Yes, it might keep you up all night but it is well worth it. If you’re looking to eat and still get out the door without greasing the door jam, the Brewpub has got it covered. With plenty of salads and half their menu being vegan friendly everyone will eat well. The food is so good that if the menu didn’t tell you it was vegan you would never know the difference.
When the weather is cooperating outside, the Brewpub offers one of the largest outdoor seating patios in the Village. Right across the street from the pedestrian friendly pathway of The Monon Trail you won’t have to worry about parking. Hop on your bike and pedal over to the Brewpub which provides a huge bike rack to lock up your ten speed. Located right outside the heart of Broad Ripple you can feel the local culture pulsating through the air. No matter if you start or end your night out at the Brewpub, you’re guaranteed a friendly setting and tasty brew.
