Owners Mona and George Hanna know Mediterranean food, it’s in their blood. Hailing from Egypt and Lebanon respectively, the pair have essentially spent their lives preparing for the Canal Bistro. With more than 22 years experience in the restaurant business George brings a sense of the industry to this Indianapolis restaurant, while Mona spent years watching her mother and grandmother cook for her big family using ingredients from their own herb and vegetable garden. With an emphasis on freshness, the Canal Bistro places their grill at the forefront of the Canal Bistro’s design, making it front and center in their dining room. Patrons are able to see the love and quality ingredients that go into making their delicious menu items.
The atmosphere created by the Hanna’s is an inclusive family environment. “Our house is known as the fun house,” explains George Hanna, “huge amounts of food and big parties. It’s been our dream to open our own place, to be creative with cuisine and to have a family business that our sons can be part of.”
A trip to the Canal Bistro is like a visit home. “Its like you’ve come to one of our parties,” George says on the Canal Bistro website. “We’ve basically just moved our kitchen from home to here.”
