The word around Indy about Z’s Oyster Bar Steakhouse is that it might just be the best restaurant in Indianapolis. Definitely, they say, among the top ten. Located in northeastern Indianapolis right at the juncture of I-69 and I-465, the elegant dining place is nicely situated to serve all of metropolitan Indianapolis and very close to its suburbs Fishers and Carmel, Indiana to the north and the Broad Ripple area to the south.
The motto at Z’s is: “Simply prepared, elegantly served.” That’s putting it quite mildly. The four-Diamond, AAA-rated restaurant in northeastern Indianapolis is one of the nicest in a town saturated with excellent eateries. They have another branch, just as elegant, in Louisville, too. Evidently these people are doing something right.
Can’t get enough tender, succulent oysters, the fruit of the sea? Z’s Oyster Bar Steakhouse exists to make your oyster dreams come true. If you’re a true oyster fanatic, you will swoon at the restaurant’s menu. Z’s offers oysters from the best harvesting spots in the world: Kumamoto Oysters from California, Snow Creek Oysters from Discovery Bay in Washington, Totem Point Oysters from the Hood Canal #2 in Washington, Deep Bay Oysters from Canada, Otter Cove Oysters from Washington and more. Try Z’s special house Mussels simmered in a light garlic-saffron-tomato stock too, while you’re in the mood to go treasure-hunting inside shells.
Seafood is the specialty at Z’s restaurant, though their steak is neck and neck in the running. To begin your odyssey of the sea, they make a fabulous Oyster Shooters, served in a Martini glass drenched with a spicy tomato cocktail, alongside corn chips. Z’s also produces beauteous Ahi Sashimi, Ceviche, Escargot, Calamari, Oysters Rockefeller, Ducktrap Smoked Salmon, Veal Sweetbreats with a Shiitake Madeira, Steak Tartare, Stone Crab Claws, Roasted Clams and a rich Lobster Bisque, just for “starters.”
Then they get serious.
Z’s Oyster Bar Steakhouse offers an astounding take on all the best international dishes for seafood. Choose from their long “Hawaii’s Best Aloha” menu, with items such as Wawlu Hawaiian Butterfish or Hapu’upu’u Hawaiian Sea Bass, for example. Or try the European favorites, Dover Sole of Whole Blue Sable imported from Australia.
Crab Cakes and Lobsters par excellence are popular favorites with Z’s loyal clientel, but they also serve Trout stuffed with crab meat and served with an intriguing balsamic-laced pecan butter, Jumbo Sea Scallops broiled to perfection and the ever-tempting Stone Crab Claw with a remoulade sauce. Try Z’s signature “piece de resistance” from the chef, a Souffle so scrumptious it was awarded its own separate place on the menu.
Who could resist adding the perfect prime filet mignon to the perfect lobster tail? The beef, lamb and duck at Z’s restaurant are given every bit as much dedicated attention as every other amazing dish. And so, by the way, are the sides and the desserts, signature dishes each and every one. Do leave room to sample Z’s Chocolate Molten Cake with hot fudge in the center and raspberry sauce on top, their famous Godiva Chocolate Creme Brulee or Bourbon Pecan Pie.
For a special evening or a romantic date in Indianapolis, you can do no better than Z’s. It’s not just an oyster bar and steak house. It’s the oyster bar and steak house.
