Crooked Stick Golf and Country Club Homes for Sale
The Crooked Stick Estates golf home community is located near 116th and Towne Rd in Carmel, directly south of the famous Coxhall Gardens park. You might think owning a home in this exclusive community automatically comes with the privilege of playing golf on this beautiful course. But it is a long-standing tradition at Crooked Stick that membership to the golf club is by invitation-only, from club members. The waiting list is said to run around six months.
This Pete and Alice Dye-designed course was built in 1964, and has seen its share of high-profile golf events, such as the 1991 PGA Championship, 1993 U.S. Women's Open, 2005 Solheim Cup, 2009 U.S. Senior Open and 2012 BMW Championship. It has received numerous accolades, and has consistent ranked in the top 100 U.S. courses by respected golf authorities like Golfweek and Golf Magazine. Amenities include a pro shop, main clubhouse and electric golf carts.
The course was inspired by certain courses in Scotland, which at the time, feature steep-faced bunkers stabilized by railroad ties, and fairways whose contours were often at odds with the natural surrounds. The course requires a good amount of aerial strength, as well as proper angles of approach, and the abilitiy to deal with crazy bounces.
